Organizations' leading security concern is unknown threat actors and exploits, according to a recent survey from Critical Start. A full 86% of cybersecurity professionals from different industries cited unknown threat actors and exploits as their biggest worry, 17 percentage points higher than last year, SC Media reports.

Increased worries about unknown threats are prompting more to consider third-party service investments, with nearly 99% considering offloading cyber risk reduction project segments to service providers in the next two years, the survey from Critical Start revealed.

Most of the concern for unknown threats stemmed from limited network visibility, noted Critical Start, which pushed the adoption of managed detection and response systems but emphasized that such tools would only be effective if appropriate external data and analysis are provided.

"MDR effectiveness relies heavily on the threat signals it receives. Limited visibility into assets connected to the network leaves organizations exposed around the clock and security leaders unsure of their true level of risk exposure," said the report.
