The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has ordered major U.S. web hosting company GoDaddy to implement more robust data security measures after being impacted by several data breaches stemming from inadequate data protections since 2018, reports SC Media.
GoDaddy should establish an information security program tracking its security assets, policies, and settings, and also accurately depict its data monitoring and security practices to its customers, said the FTC, which noted the firm's previous failures in implementing network segmentation, security events logging and monitoring, and shared hosting service risk assessments.
"Millions of companies, particularly small businesses, rely on web hosting providers like GoDaddy to secure the websites that they and their customers rely on," said Samuel Levine, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. "The FTC is acting today to ensure that companies like GoDaddy bolster their security systems to protect consumers around the globe."
