Blackpoint Cyber, a SaaS-based Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution provider, has extended its Cloud Response security product to Google Workspace.

The company initially rolled out Cloud Response for Microsoft 365 to its partners in June 2022. By early October 2023, the service will shield both Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments.

Protection Across Platforms

The new expansion is set to enhance Google Workspace's security, offering 24/7 monitoring to prevent unauthorized Google Account access and detect harmful Gmail activity.

Cloud Response for Google Workspace will be part of Blackpoint Response, an economically priced bundle of integrated cybersecurity solutions. The product offers an efficient onboarding process, doing away with ingestion fees and the need for on-premises setup.

Blackpoint Response is a suite of security products which aligns with established security frameworks such as NIST, aiming to provide businesses with a holistic defense against various cyberthreats.

Features and Functionality

Cloud Response for Google Workspace will provide several detection features, including:

  • Analysis of potentially malicious Google Account logins, flagging scenarios like logins from unapproved countries or suspicious activity.
  • Detection of harmful Gmail actions, such as suspicious email filter rule creation and external email forwarding rule establishment.
  • The capability to respond to and disable a compromised Google Account.

When such malicious activities are detected, Blackpoint's round-the-clock Security Operations Center (SOC) takes prompt action.

Additional Commentary

Xavier Salinas, chief technology officer at Blackpoint, commented:

"As businesses, hospitals, academia, and individuals continue to heavily use cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, we realized the urgent requirement for managed security in these environments. Our solution for Google Workspace seamlessly integrates with our system, providing optimal protection on major cloud attack surfaces. We've found cloud threats to be nearly twice as frequent as on-premises ones. Moreover, this Cloud Response variant enriches our SOC team's data, enabling more knowledgeable and contextual responses."

Wilfredo Santiago, SVP, response operations center, at Blackpoint, added:

"We take action to disable accounts upon detecting malicious activity, ensuring the security of partner information. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) can be confident in their protection against sophisticated cyberthreats, allowing them to concentrate on core operations."
