Unprecedented cyberattacks are expected to be launched by threat actors in the upcoming Paris Olympics, with threat actors likely to build upon the 4.4 billion detected intrusions at the Tokyo 2020 Games, reports SC Media.
With darknet activity aimed at France rising by 80% to 90% between the last six months of 2023 and the first six months of 2024, cybercriminals are poised to bolster spear-phishing intrusions and targeted remote trojan and in-person network attacks targeted at the spectators of the Games, particularly diplomats and celebrities, according to a Fortinet report.
"The prevalence and sophistication of these threats are a testament to cybercriminals' planning and execution, with the dark web serving as a hub for their activities," said researchers.
They also emphasized that such expected deluge of cyber threats at the Olympics, which will be commencing next week, should prompt increased vigilance and the implementation of more precautions.
