Prescott, which promotes CMMC readiness programs to MSPs, has named founding member and IT services veteran Jeff Farr as its CEO.
CMMC is short for Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification -- which requires roughly 300,000 defense industrial base (DIB) contractors to improve their security in order to earn contracts with the U.S. federal government.
CMMC compliance is particularly important to MSPs that work directly and/or indirectly with the U.S. federal government. Indeed, President Biden's recent executive order on cybersecurity specifically mentioned the need for IT service providers to bolster their cyber initiatives.
Roll it all together, and CMMC compliance could play a big role in helping MSPs to mitigate their own cyber risks, and cyber infrastructure risks across the United States.
CMMC and Prescott at ConnectWise IT Nation Secure 2021
Amid that backdrop, the Prescott team is expected to further explain CMMC's potential implications to MSPs during this week's ConnectWise IT Nation Secure 2021 conference in Orlando, Florida.
Farr should enjoy strong credibility in front of that MSP and technology solutions provider (TSP) audience. Indeed, he previously led two MSPs -- one of which was acquired by a national MSP. He has also led an IT strategy and leadership consultancy that support Fortune 500 clientele.
Moreover, Prescott itself was spun out of an MSP business. The name Prescott comes from Samuel Prescott, an American physician and a Massachusetts Patriot during the American Revolutionary War. According to WikiPedia, Prescott is best known for his role in Paul Revere's "midnight ride" to warn the townspeople of Concord, Massachusetts of the impending British army move to capture guns and gunpowder kept there at the beginning of the American Revolution. He was the only participant in the ride to reach Concord.
In a conversation with ChannelE2E, Farr said the Prescott business essentially offers dedicated, virtual chief compliance officers (vCCOs) to MSPs. And those vCCOs are experts in the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance process.
