Datadog has unveiled new features and capabilities across its cloud-based monitoring platform for IT professionals and managed services providers (MSPs).
The updates involve
network,
user and
serverless monitoring capabilities. Other enhancements address
cost optimization features for log management along with
tracing without limits. More details surfaced in this
Datadog blog.
The new features and capabilities generated buzz at
Datadog Dash 2019 -- a conference for customers, partners and MSPs this week in in New York.
Like many cloud monitoring providers, Datadog has been evolving from a point solution provider to a platform provider -- introducing capabilities that address application performance monitoring (APM), infrastructure monitoring, log management and more.
Cloud Monitoring Tools and MSPs: Who Has Traction?
The venture-backed company is in growth mode but also faces intense competition. Key rivals include
Cisco AppDynamics,
New Relic and private-equity owned
Dynatrace -- which is
ramping up for a potential IPO.
Each of those monitoring tool providers has some momentum with MSPs (managed IT services providers) and channel partners. But much of the MSP momentum is up in the midmarket and enterprise accounts. None of the major players has specifically extended down into the MSP-driven SMB market.
ChannelE2E has stated multiple times that
APM is a big opportunity for MSPs of all sizes. But so far, traction in the SMB space appears limited.
Datadog's partner program is designed for service providers and resellers, along with ISVs (independent software vendors) that want to integrate with the platform.
Datadog Funding, IPO Plans?
Datadog's most recent funding was a $94.5 million Series D round in 2016, ChannelE2E believes though we're double-checking to see if any new funding has arrived in recent years. We're also poking around to see if Datadog is exploring any potential IPO plans.
