Channel Brief: New Rumors Swirl About a Potential Intel Takeover

Is Intel a target for takeover? Chatter this morning seems to think so, and Intel stock is up based on the rumors.

Tech news and research site SemiAccurate is teasing that a "mystery company" is exploring options for acquiring Intel. The site referenced "a confidential email that it reviewed and a subsequent confirmation from a second source -- said the prospective buyer has not publicly disclosed its interest but has sufficient resources to purchase Intel at current valuations," according to Slashdot. Hmmmm.

Last year, we covered Intel's struggles and its potential path forward. Research firm Canalys boldly predicted that Intel would 'cease to exist in its current form,' and there have been rumors since last fall -- especially after CEO Pat Gelsinger stepped down -- that is could be prime time for an acquisition.

It'll be something we keep an eye on going forward.
