Kaseya's acquisition of ID Agent, announced this morning as the Kaseya Connect IT 2019 conference gets under way, empowers MSPs with dark web monitoring, threat intelligence and identity monitoring capabilities.
The deal sounds like a very smart move, considering ID Agent's rapid growth over the past two years, along with the company's all-in focus on resellers, MSPs and MSSPs.
Still, Kaseya's overall security suite for MSPs and IT department managers faces intense competition from the broader MSP software industry.
Among the key rivals to watch:
ConnectWise has:
- introduced an identity risk assessment tool for MSPs;
- invested in Perch Security for threat intelligence;
- acquired Sienna Group for MSSP capabilities that MSPs can leverage; and
- promoted a NIST-developed cybersecurity framework for partners.
Continuum has:
- expanded and rebranded its cybersecurity services for MSPs;
- acquired CARVIR for expanded SOC capabilities; and
- accelerated its cyber strategy since an original launch in October 2017.
Datto has:
- Positioned its data protection platforms as a natural antidote to ransomware;
- Built security into its networking gear;
- Hinted that security surprises could surface at DattoCon 2019 in June 2019.
SolarWinds MSP has:
- Acquired Passportal to offer MSPs password management as a service;
- Acquired technology to launch SolarWinds Threat Monitor, a SIEM-oriented platform for MSSPs with security operations centers;
- Acquiring access rights management technology, which allows MSPs and IT professionals to centrally provision, deprovision, manage, and audit user access rights to their systems, data, and files while minimizing exposure to insider threats, the company says.
- Prepared an endpoint protection partnership with SentinelOne, which will be announced soon, according to MSSP Alert.
- Additional capabilities include email protection, backup and recovery and more.
Additional MSP-Centric Cybersecurity Moves
And don't forget, Barracuda Networks has been making MSP-centric business management moves. And Carbonite recently extended from data protection to security with the Webroot acquisition.
Plus, just about every endpoint protection, network and cloud security company has extended from traditional channel partner programs toward MSP-centric engagements over the past year or two.
Amid all that competition, don't underestimate the Kaseya-ID Agent business combination. Over the past year or two, ID Agent has been one of the fastest-rising stars in the MSP-centric cybersecurity market.
