While DevOps catches on within enterprise software development circles, the DevOps wave hasn't quite hit MSPs and the IT channel yet. But it's certainly building.
The latest evidence involves such MSPs as G2 Technology Group in Boston, Mass. and Liberty Technology of Atlanta, Ga. We introduced you to G2 back in February 2016, describing how the company leverages Continuum's MSP platforms while offering DevOps services to SaaS startups focused on software development. G2’s CEO is H. Glenn Grant — a veteran of Thrive Networks, a well-known MSP that Staples once owned.
Fast forward to present day and G2 is banging a steady drum for its DevOps managed services. The company is set to participate in DevOps Days Boston in August; Continuum Navigate 2016 in September; IT Nation 2016 from ConnectWise in November; and Amazon AWS re:Invent later that month.
Grant concedes that the DevOps message has yet to reach the MSP masses. But some MSPs are starting to pursue cross-company DevOps conversations and shared learnings -- much in the way that many of those MSP veterans shared PSA (professional services automation), RMM (remote monitoring and management) and service desk learnings a decade ago.
A case in point: G2 speaks frequently with Liberty Technology, an MSP in Atlanta. Liberty has embraced an agile mindset for its IT service delivery. CEO Ben Johnson and COO Nathan Jones described agile strategies to MSPs during ConnectWise Automation Nation 2016 for LabTech partners earlier this month.
