Avnet's board of directors has hired an executive search firm to find the technology distributor's next CEO, a spokeswoman for the company confirmed to ChannelE2E.
The search firm will consider internal and external candidates, with a board decision on a permanent CEO expected to be made within the next six months, the spokeswoman indicated.
Avnet is seeking a permanent successor to Rick Hamada, who has stepped down as CEO amid an unexpected earnings shortfall. Avnet blamed at least some of the earnings shortfall, disclosed earlier today, on an ERP deployment in the Americas region.
Avnet Names Interim CEO
William Amelio has been named interim CEO until a permanent successor is found. Amelio will also be considered as a candidate for the permanent position, according to an Avnet statement to ChannelE2E.
Amelio, an Avnet board member, previously was president and CEO of CHC Group Ltd., an international oil-field services company. Earlier he was CEO of Lenovo, and a senior VP for Dell. Amelio also is an IBM veteran.
