Deloitte Acquires Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP)

Karim Ladha

The hunt to acquire MSPs (managed service providers) is rapidly shifting toward vertical market and/or security expertise. The latest example involves Deloitte buying Integrity-Paahi Solutions (IPS), a managed security service provider (MSSP) in Vancouver, Canada.

The IPS location will become Deloitte’s fourth managed security operations center, called a Cyber Intelligence Center (CIC) by Deloitte, the company said. The location is part of Deloitte's global 24x7 managed security services.

Deloitte will also leverage IPS's talent in a range of ways. IPS President and CEO Karim Ladha, CTO Santosh Nair, and VP Christopher Law will be part of Deloitte's Cyber Risk Services practice and will operate as IPS Deloitte. They will serve as a one-stop shop for clientele seeking both the software and insights that protect their businesses.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Beyond Traditional Professional Services

Deloitte, like many other major professional services firms, has been reinventing itself for the cloud and managed services waves. For instance, Deloitte's cyber risk practice has grown its team by roughly 300 percent over the past two years, the company said. Moreover, Deloitte has acquired 18 businesses in the past five years, the company points out.

Rivals are pivoting, too. Accenture, for one, has been buying up cloud-focused consulting firms -- including CRMWaypoint (Salesforce.com consulting); Cloud Sherpas (Google, Salesforce and ServiceNow projects); Tquila UK and ClientHouse (Salesforce and Veeva Systems).

Capgemini, another key player, is training 1,000 IT consultants to become Amazon Web Services experts.
