Gartner Magic Quadrant: Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Suites Q4 2016

The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring (APM) suites has arrived for Q4 2016. Of course, a dozen APM vendors are claiming victory. But it looks like Gartner is placing three key companies ahead of the APM pack.

Indeed, the Magic Quadrant leader category includes AppDynamics, Dynatrace and New Relic -- as shown here:

Gartner Says: APM includes three core areas -- including digital experience monitoring (DEM); application discovery, tracing and diagnostics (ADTD); and application analytics (AA), Gartner asserts.

ChannelE2E Says: Most folks leverage APM to monitor the performance of on-premises and cloud applications; mobile apps; and browser-based systems. The APM market is on a collision course with the RMM (remote monitoring and management) market pioneered by MSP-centric software companies, ChannelE2E believes. Moreover, core infrastructure and APM monitoring are converging. Indeed, New Relic recently expanded from APM down to infrastructure monitoring. And emerging rival Datadog is marching upward from infrastructure monitoring to APM capabilities. Datadog's APM push is new, so the company has not yet surfaced in the Gartner Magic Quadrant shown above.
