N-able’s First Developer Portal Delivers Automation, Scaling for MSPs

Developers and Security Teams

Fresh from launching its first-ever official developer portal, IT management platform vendor N‑able says the portal will make it easier and faster for MSPs and IT service providers to serve their customers using N-able’s diverse platforms.

The N-able developer portal is designed to help MSPs slash the time spent on implementing API integrations while also providing pre-built templates for data access and extraction, immediate spot testing of API calls, and streamlined AI-powered API script creation capabilities.

The launch of the developer portal underscores N-able's commitment to fostering a collaborative, open ecosystem where partners can thrive with the tools and solutions that drive the most value for their customers,” Nicole Reineke, senior distinguished product manager at N-able told ChannelE2E. “API and script generation allows MSPs to differentiate their service offerings, address unique client requirements, and respond more swiftly to market changes by integrating systems. Scripts and APIs also facilitate deeper customization and automation.”

Two of the key benefits of the new portal are its integrated task automation and scaling features that will deliver broader operational efficiencies and improved user experiences for MSPs and their customers.

“MSPs face the challenge of scaling their services while keeping costs down and delivering high-value solutions to their customers,” said Reineke. “The more customers they serve, the more complex their operations become. They are spending valuable time managing integrations and development rather than focusing on security, automation, and business growth.”

A Smart Move by N-able for MSPs: Analyst

Analyst Paul Nashawaty, the principal analyst for AppDev at theCUBE Research, told ChannelE2E that the new N-able portal would be a boon for its MSP and IT services customers.

“Basically, N-able just made life way easier for MSPs using their offerings,” he said. “Their developer portal lets them quickly connect their systems and automate all those tedious tasks, which means less manual work and happier clients. This may be behind in the market, but it advances the adaptability of the N-able platform.”

And that is critical because a recent research study found that MSPs spend nearly 40% of their time on manual tasks, said Nashawaty. “This new portal could cut that down, freeing them up to focus on innovation, which is important since only 24% of developer time is spent on coding.”

These expected time savings make a huge difference, he added. “It is significant that it gives MSPs more flexibility and customization. They aren't limited to a one-size-fits-all solution and can tailor their tools and workflows to meet their specific client needs. This leads to more efficient operations, better service, and a more substantial business.”

The portal will also bring increased profitability for MSPs by allowing them to automate tasks and streamline workflows, he said. “This leads to enhanced service delivery, improved security, and greater scalability, ultimately benefiting the MSP and its clients. When I speak to CIOs, the number one initiative is app modernization, and the barriers often communicated are complexity and skill gap issues. This approach with a single platform would reduce complexity and enable tasks to be completed by generalists rather than specialists.”

Adding a developer portal can also boost the image of a services company and give it a stronger competitive position in the market, said Nashawaty.

“A developer portal signifies customer support and flexibility, empowering users to customize the platform and fostering innovation,” he said. “This creates a stronger partnership, increases customer loyalty, and future-proofs their platform use. This also may act as a catalyst to enable AI adoption for certain stages of the CI/CD pipeline across the software development lifecycle.”

In January, N-able entered a strategic partnership with MSP consortium group The 20 to expand N-able’s Cove Data Protection platform availability to a wider range of MSPs and their customers.
