GE Vernova's Digital division has purchased Greenbird Integration Technology AS, a company specializing in data integration for the utility sector, for an undisclosed amount.

GE Vernovia is a portfolio of energy businesses owned by General Electric (GE). The portfolio was founded in 2022 and has 4,992 employees listed on LinkedIn.
Greenbird Integrated Technology, founded in 2010, is based in Oslo, Norway. The company has 57 employees listed on LinkedIn. Greenbird’s areas of expertise include Consulting, Integration, SOA, BPM, ESB, Automatic meter reading, AMR, AMI, Smart Metering, Smart Grids, JEE, Middleware, Portal, Enterprise architecture, IT strategy, Masterdata, Java, iPaaS, DevOps, and Data Flows.
The move is part of GE Vernova's strategy of fostering a sustainable energy grid. This acquisition will enhance GridOS, a first-of-its-kind software for grid orchestration, by offering advanced capabilities to integrate data throughout the grid efficiently and on a large scale. Financial details remain confidential, according to GE Vernova.
The GridOS software suite ensures dependable grid operations, aiding utilities globally. By integrating Greenbird, the platform's data fabric will evolve, eliminating data silos and simplifying the amalgamation of energy data, thereby streamlining data integration projects. This will further synchronize modern software, fostering grid automation opportunities, GE Vernova said.
Growing The Grid
The integration of diverse data streams is crucial, as proven by rising electric vehicle (EV) adoption, projected to reach 229M by 2030 in the United States. Successful data integration will be pivotal in facilitating EV-grid interactions, like the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) concept, according to GE Vernova.
Greenbird's platform, provided as a service and developed with cloud services, will expedite the availability of key GridOS elements.
GE Vernova will also welcome Greenbird's expert team, enhancing the AI-driven vision for GridOS, as it aims to address grid orchestration hurdles and advancing large-scale decarbonization and electrification.
