Remote connectivity and digital workplace services vendor TeamViewer is bolstering its services to MSPs and other customers by acquiring digital employee experience (DEX) platform vendor 1E, which provides autonomous IT support for users and IT service desk teams.

Under the $720 million deal, 1E’s autonomous DEX platform will be integrated with TeamViewer’s remote access and support platform to help customers proactively prevent IT support issues from negatively affecting their operations and drive increased revenue for service providers. TeamViewer’s connectivity platform allows companies to remotely access, control, manage, monitor, and repair devices of any kind – from laptops and mobile phones to industrial machines and robots.

“This move is a key part of TeamViewer’s strategy to create an end-to-end offering to address any IT issue,” Oliver Steil, the CEO of TeamViewer, told ChannelE2E. “By combining TeamViewer’s remote access and support solutions with 1E’s DEX technology, we will create a ... one-stop-shop for IT operations, intelligent endpoint management and enhanced user experience in the digital workplace.”

1E’s DEX platform is designed to deliver real-time visibility of enterprise IT landscapes, giving MSPs and technicians insights so they can identify problems as they arise and automatically make repairs at affected endpoints, according to the companies.

MSPs already use TeamViewer’s existing remote access and support offering, as well as its remote monitoring and management add-ons, to provide services to customers. The 1E products will extend those capabilities and provide MSPs with more tools to help customers manage their IT systems using deeper automation and autonomy.

1E has already been “exploring” the idea of working with MSPs that serve SMB customers, and this will be a growing part of the company’s business after the acquisition, a spokesperson told ChannelE2E.

For TeamViewer, the 1E acquisition is a “strategic expansion into digital workplace management,” said Steil. “The autonomous IT platform is 1E’s leading DEX platform and delivers real-time visibility on enterprise IT landscapes, promptly identifying issues as they arise and automating remediation directly on the endpoint.”

For MSPs, 1E's DEX platform is multi-tenant, which means that MSPs can run a single instance (or tenant) of 1E containing all of their customers, simplifying its use and management.

More Acquisition Details

Under the $720 million acquisition deal, TeamViewer signed an agreement with Carlyle Europe Technology Partners, part of the Carlyle global investment firm, to buy 1E for $720 million on a cash-free, debt-free basis, according to the companies. The transaction is expected to close in early 2025 after obtaining necessary regulatory approvals.

TeamViewer said that several strategic benefits are also expected under the deal, including enabling new innovation and AI developments in the digital workplace space; growing its total addressable market by tapping into 1E’s DEX technologies; accelerating enterprise business growth due to its expanded offerings; and driving broader business growth by expanding TeamViewer’s footprint in North America while also introducing DEX into EMEA and APAC.

Mark Banfield, the CEO of 1E, will become a member of TeamViewer’s management board and become the chief commercial officer for the combined companies after the transaction is completed.
