Global IT Consulting Giant DXC Exits Russia; Condemns Ukraine Invasion

Panorama of Red Square in Moscow, Russia

DXC Technology is exiting Russia -- the latest sign that global IT consulting firms, cloud MSPs and MSSPs are rethinking their business strategies amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement about the decision to exit Russia, DXC:

  • Condemned the Russian Government's "unwarranted aggression" -- which is "leading to the death, injury, and displacement of innocent civilians in Ukraine";
  • aligned with "every person, company, and government across the world that is calling for an immediate end to this unprovoked attack on Ukraine";
  • vowed to support 4,000 DXC colleagues in Russia -- though financial details of that support were not disclosed; and
  • promised to match employee donations to the Red Cross  humanitarian efforts at 200%.

Accenture Exits Russia: DXC's strategy mirrors that of Accenture -- which halted business in Russia and vowed to support roughly 2,300 employees in Russia that are impacted by the decision.

Both Accenture and DXC rank among the world's Top 250 Public Cloud MSPs and Top 250 MSSPs, according to ChannelE2E and MSSP Alert research, respectively.

Ukraine-Russia Conflict: Cybersecurity and IT Services Implications

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has had ripple effects worldwide. In addition to the human toll, the invasion has crystallized how how kinetic warfare (bombs, guns, bullets, etc.) is now fully intertwined with cyber warfare.

Moreover, the invasion could undermine IT services and software development projects worldwide. The reason? Ukraine is one of the world’s leading providers of outsourced IT services, programmers and other types of technology professionals.

Of major note: 13 of the world’s Top 100 outsourcing service providers are headquartered in Ukraine, and eight additional companies have offices in the Ukraine, according to the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP). Key Ukraine companies to know include ElitexSoftserve and Fiverr, according to FastCompany.
