Webroot CFO John Post shifts to senior VP and GM of the security business, reporting to Carbonite President and CEO Mohamad Ali. Also of note: Charlie Tomeo continues to lead Webroot's channel team, a spokesperson confirmed to ChannelE2E.

On the one hand, Carbonite and Webroot share a common go-to-market approach of delivering customer success through partner channels, the technology companies say. But on the other hand, Webroot generally has stronger relationships with SMB-focused MSPs, ChannelE2E believes. Amid that reality, Carbonite has vowed not to harm Webroot's existing channel strategy, sources told ChannelE2E.

In a prepared statement about the deal, Ali said:

“The combination of these two companies creates a unique and powerful data protection and cybersecurity solution for our customers and partners. We are thrilled to officially welcome Webroot to the Carbonite family and look forward to delivering positive results together.”

Added Post:

“Webroot and Carbonite share a common vision to empower small and mid-sized businesses with next generation solutions purpose-built for their unique needs. I’m confident we will build on the momentum of Carbonite and Webroot’s cloud-based approach to protecting endpoint data as we aim to deliver strong results for customers and partners.”

Carbonite Completes Webroot Acquisition: Business Evolution, Competition

No doubt, Ali has been reshaping Carbonite for the SMB market in recent years. The strategy is promising, but the company also faces strong, entrenched rivals in the security and data protection SMB sector.

Carbonite plans to share more updates about the deal during Dell Technologies World 2019 in April. Carbonite has a close relationship with Dell, based on Carbonite's buyout of Mozy from Dell EMC in February 2018.
