AWS Migration Hub: One Portal for Amazon Cloud Migration Tools

AWS’s Jim Sherhart explains the hub and a new Amazon Marcie security service.
AWS Summit: Jim Sherhart explains the Migration Hub and a new Amazon Marcie Managed Security Service.

How can partners and customers manage workload migrations to Amazon Web Services? Perhaps the answer resides in the new AWS Migration Hub -- which features cloud migration management tools from Amazon and ISVs.

So far the hub features such AWS tools as:

Many of the tools within the hub are already quite popular with customers. For instance, partners and customers have leveraged the Database Migration Service for more than 34,000 databases since the tool launched more than a year ago, according to Jim Sherhart, head of product marketing for core services and enterprise applications.

MSP Software Providers: Joining In?

Over time, the hub will feature more and more tools to help partners and customers manage migrations that involve Windows and Linux applications, relational databases, and more, Amazon says.

Sherhart expects systems integrators and ISVs to increasingly leverage the Migration Hub as a single dashboard for customer migrations.

Still, it's too soon for us to predict whether MSP- and IT services-centric software companies will launch tools in the hub. Companies such as Autotask, ConnectWise and Kaseya each offer cloud cost management and/or monitoring tools -- though in some cases the tools were initially designed for Office 365 and Microsoft Azure. But there are signs that most of the major MSP software companies want to get more involved in AWS migration tools and workload management.

We're checking in with multiple providers to see if they're checking out the Amazon Migration Hub.

Meanwhile: Cloud Security Tools Emerge

The hub surfaced today at AWS Summit in New York, where Amazon and ISVs have announced multiple cloud management and security tools. Examples include:
