Everyone's talking about quantum computing and post-quantum cryptography lately. But NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's bombshell this week -- stating that we are likely 15 to 30 years away from a viable solution -- has the market in freefall, as CNBC reported.
"If you said 15 years for very useful quantum computers, that would probably be on the early side," said NVIDIA's CEO during the company's analyst day. "If you said 30, it's probably on the late side. But if you picked 20, I think a whole bunch of us would believe it."
The statement sparked IonQ shares to drop 3% since Huang's remarks. D-Wave Systems is close to 50%. Quantum Computing, which announced a stock offering to raise $100 million, sank 39%.
That doesn't mean we should stop looking for answers, and who knows when a breakthrough may come. This is the tech industry, after all.
