The surging demand for cloud computing, increased data volumes, and the widespread use of AI technologies have helped the data centers market not only to recover from the 2023 slowdown but to hit record highs, according to research from AltIndex.com.
According to AltIndex.com data, global spending on data centers is predicted to grow by 15% and hit $367 billion in 2025, the biggest increase among all IT industry segments.
The data center boom is even more impressive compared to other IT industry segments, according to the research, most of which will grow much slower. For instance, global spending on software will increase by 14% and hit over $1.2 trillion next year, according to the AltIndex.com data.
The IT services segment is forecasted to see 9% growth and $1.7 trillion in revenue, while IT devices and communication services follow with a 9.5% and 4% annual increase, respectively. Check out the full findings here.

3. Commvault introduces Clumio Backtrack: Data protection and resilience solutions provider Commvault announced this week its Clumio Backtrack, a new capability that uses automation to rapidly revert objects – or pieces of data – stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) to a specific version at a specific point and time. This makes it quick and easy for cloud operations, IT, and security teams to recover data from errors, accidents, or cyberattacks, the company said in a statement.
4. NordLayer adds download protection: Cybersecurity tools vendor NordLayer this week launched Download Protection, a security feature that automatically scans and instantly removes various types of malware-infected files from user-initiated internet downloads. It will soon be available on other desktop platforms, the company said.
5. Critical plugin flaws continue to plague WordPress sites: Nearly 50% of the 200,000+ WordPress sites with the spam protection, Anti-Spam, FireWall by CleanTalk plugin are still vulnerable to a pair of critical authorization bypass vulnerabilities, tracked as CVE-2024-10542 and CVE-2024-10781, which could be leveraged to facilitate arbitrary plugin activation and remote code execution attacks, SecurityWeek reported. The more severe of the two is CVE-2024-10542, which evades authorization for the plugin's remote call and plugin installation function, according to a report from Defiant. The issue was addressed by CleanTalk earlier this month, but the released fix was found to be affected by CVE-2024-10781, which enables attacker authorization through a token with the same empty hash value, Defiant added. Organizations with WordPress sites using the CleanTalk plugin are urged to immediately apply the version 6.45 update.
