Apple is looking to overtake Qualcomm with its own line of mobile modems, and the first iterations may be available in early 2025.
Mobile World Live reported that Apple’s in-house chips are expected in an update to the iPhone SE series scheduled for early next year, a high-end version available in 2026 and the goal to surpass technology offered by current supplier Qualcomm by 2027.
Rumours surrounding Apple’s development of its own smartphone modems have been circulating for years, reaching a peak in 2019 when Apple acquired the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business.
