At first glance, ESET is "just" an endpoint security company -- which some folks boil down to "anti-virus software." But take a closer look and you'll discover that the company continues to diversify its security platform for MSPs.
The latest effort includes a suite that reached general availability this week. It offers such features and capabilities as:
- Enterprise Inspector for Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)
- Security Management Center
- Dynamic Threat Defense
- Threat Monitoring and Threat Hunting
- Deployment and Upgrade Service
The suite of solutions is now available in select countries, including The United States, Canada, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the Netherlands. ESET says the "fully customizable solution" provides more visibility to help prevention, detection, and response against various cyber threats.
Among the capabilities of note:
- ESET Threat Hunting and Threat Monitoring: The former is an on-demand forensic investigation tool that provides detailed accounts of specific alarms or events while the latter offers around-the-clock monitoring of various threat alerts. Both are compatible with ESET Threat Intelligence, which provides global insights on specific threats and attack sources.
- ESET’s Dynamic Threat Defense: An off-premises cloud sandbox.
- ESET’s Security Management Center: An enhanced console that provides complete network visibility, full security management, and reporting from one control panel.
All of those solutions can be deployed independently or in tandem with the company’s existing products, ESET says.
ESET History, Growth, Focus
The Slovakian-headquartered company has offices in the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Czech Republic, Poland, Singapore, and Australia as well as distributors in more than 180 countries.
On the partner front, a relationship with Zedsphere -- a cloud solutions provider that works with MSPs -- help to sign up an additional 500 UK partners. And in the U.S., ESET Senior Security Researcher Stephen Cobb along with Partner Community Manager Cameron Tousley recently attended CompTIA ChannelCon 2018 in Washington, D.C.
During a ChannelCon meeting with ChannelE2E, the ESET executives reinforced the company's MSP-centric focus, and growing footprint in such areas as encryption, two-factor authentication, network forensics and more.
Also of note: Ingram Micro veteran Brent McCarty has joined ESET North America as president.
ESET Competition
Although ESET has a big installed base, the company also faces intense competition -- particularly in the MSP security software market. Among the rivals to note:
- Webroot and Sophos have deep, longstanding relationships with MSPs in the SMB and midmarket sectors, respectively. Both firms have strong, MSP-centric management dashboards for partners.
- VIPRE Security has a cloud-delivered security platform for MSPs, and recently unveiled Site Manager to ease customer administration -- along with a push into the email security market through the J2 Global M&A deal.
- Cisco Umbrella has a loyal MSP following, and Cisco's overall security portfolio increasingly flows through MSPs. Plus, CEO Chuck Robbins say security is Cisco's top priority. That focus includes a growing relationship with ConnectWise to engage security-minded MSPs.
- Next-generation providers like AlienVault (recently acquired by AT&T) and Cylance, which also are working more closely with ConnectWise to engage SMB partners.
We'll be watching to see where ESET heads next.
