Former Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers has invested in Rubrik and joined the cloud data protection company's board of directors, the parties confirmed this morning.
Rubrik, which launched in 2014, has grown to more than 1,200 employees and is approaching a $300 million bookings run rate, the company says.
On the talent front, Rubrik has hired former VMware VP of business IT Avon Puri as CIO, the company confirmed today.
He joins a growing list of recent recruits. Earlier this year the company also hired:
- Atlassian veteran Murray Demo as CFO;
- Box veteran Peter McGoff as Chief Legal Officer;
- Adobe veteran Jeff Vijungco as Chief People Officer; and
- Mulesoft veteran Shay Mowlem as SVP of Product & Strategy.
Rubrik vs Cohesity, StorageCraft
This morning's Chambers-related news comes only one day after Cohesity CEO Mohit Aron announced rapid revenue growth fueled by channel partners that specialize in hyperconverged secondary storage deployments.
Ironically, StorageCraft President Douglas Brockett three days ago essentially vowed that the new StorageCraft OneXafe will disrupt Rubrik and Cohesity in the storage and data protection markets.
