Weaveworks is now providing monitoring and alerting for Docker-deployed applications. The container and microservices networking company introduced self-service monitoring and alerting capabilities for its Weave Cloud software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform at DockerCon 2017. That news and more (see further below) surfaced at DockerCon 2017 in San Francisco.
The new capabilities give app developers "deep insight into Docker-deployed applications and microservices," Weaveworks noted in a prepared statement.
In addition, the capabilities provide DevOps teams with the ability to link Docker, Kubernetes and Prometheus for scalable monitoring and operations, Weaveworks stated.
A Closer Look at the New Weave Cloud Capabilities
The new Weave Cloud capabilities provide developers with a "full stack" operations solution for any Docker environment, according to Weaveworks.
Weave Cloud offers automatic service discovery and monitoring of Docker container services and networks, Weaveworks indicated. A daemon monitors the creation of Docker services and networks, and no manual configuration is required.
Meanwhile, Weave Cloud's automated alerts ensure developers are notified about changes in the health of a service or performance problems, Weaveworks said. Weave Cloud uses a rules-based system to route alerts to different DevOps teams or services and can be integrated into existing enterprise operations workflows and dashboards.
Weave Cloud is available as a managed cloud service for DevOps teams and enterprises. The platform "lets developers focus on innovating faster by automating managing applications in production," Weaveworks pointed out.
Weaveworks Launches Weave Cloud Enterprise Edition
Weaveworks last month unveiled the Weave Cloud Enterprise Edition tier for its container-based microservices management platform.
Weave Cloud Enterprise Edition features:
- Incident management with historical audit, instant query and dashboards.
- Release automation and point-in-time rollback for Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Kubernetes troubleshooting, including resource-container mapping.
Weave Cloud Enterprise Edition is based on a full open source CNCF stack combined with Weave's open source projects, according to Weaveworks. It also supports all container orchestration platforms, including Kubernetes and Docker Swarm.
"With this release, we are bringing together all of our experience running Weave Cloud, Prometheus and Kubernetes at scale on AWS," Weaveworks CEO Alexis Richardson said in a prepared statement. "By integrating monitoring more deeply with deployment and management, we're helping customers fix problems immediately and ship their development changes incredibly fast."
