CTECH Consulting Group and BackupPlan -- an IT services specialist and a business continuity specialist -- have merged, ChannelE2E has learned. An official announcement from the two Canadian firms is expected sometime this month. Internal team members have already been briefed about the deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
CTECH, led by CEO Carl Fransen, has offered IT services to customers in Calgary, AB, Canada for a decade. The company's clientele includes customers across such verticals as energy, environmental services, schools and education.
Meanwhile, BackupPlan offers services to "eliminate any business outage" -- with a particular focus on full backup audits, business continuity planning, system monitoring and recovering testing. The company's customer base extends across North America.
BackupPlan founder and CTO James Szarka is joining CTECH as part of the deal. Each BackupPlan employee has at least 18 years of experience focused directly on disaster recovery, backup and related implementation services. Although ChannelE2E doesn't know the specific headcount, LinkedIn indicates that BackupPlan has one to 10 employees. That team will now become a "dedicated department" at CTECH focused on backup solutions.
M&A activity across Canada has been particularly active this year, especially as some IT service providers attempt to navigate an energy vertical slowdown in Calgary. Additional deals in the region have included F12.net buying Xcel Professional Services; and ESW and ITnorth merging.
