Intermedia, which has transformed from a hosted Exchange provider into a full-service cloud business applications provider, has hired Microsoft veteran Eric Martorano as senior VP of worldwide sales, effective Sept. 15.
Martorano is well-known within the Microsoft channel partner ecosystem. He previously was Microsoft's GM of US Partner Sales, where he developed, launched and managed a range of channel partner programs.
Instead of competing head-on against Microsoft, Intermedia has spent recent years working more close with the company particularly on the Office 365 front. The company expects Martorano's hiring to further that effort, according to CEO Michael Gold.
Intermedia's cloud portfolio now includes SecuriSync backup and file sharing, AppID identity & access management, Cloud PBX, and email archiving.
Multiple Microsoft executives -- including VP Stephen Boyle and Hosting GM Carlos de Torres -- congratulated Martorano on the career move.
Martorano will work closely with Intermedia Senior VP Bob Leibholz. While Leibholz is still responsible for strategic alliances and business development, Martorano is in charge of sales.
