Datto's partner-led marketing has surfaced on billboards across the U.S. They're even in Long Island Railroad commuter cars, warning riders about ransomware's impact on business. All of the marketing ties back to Datto's pure MSP sales model.

This week, Datto's business messages also are center-stage in London, where CEO Austin McChord and his lieutenants hosted DattoCon EMEA Partner Conference today. Roughly 300 MSPs attended.

Anecdotal evidence suggests Datto's global strategy is performing well. EMEA revenue is up 50 percent compared to this time last year, though the privately held company hasn't disclosed actual revenue figures.

Datto Product Upgrades

Of course, product upgrades also continue. Among the incremental updates today:

  • Datto SIRIS 3, the company's data protection platform, now includes a ransomware detection capability. When ransomware is detected, SIRIS 3 notifies admins and allows them to roll back to a state before the ransomware hit, the company asserts.
  • Datto NAS 3, the company's cloud protected network storage solution, now offers Infinite Cloud Retention (ICR). ICR allows customers to save all of their data to the Datto Cloud indefinitely, regardless of capacity used, the company says.
  • Datto Backupify, the cloud-to-cloud data protection solution, added several features, including new pricing tiers and new seat management capabilities. (Any body got the financial details?)

On a somewhat related note, Datto has quietly launched a BDR sizing tool that helps MSPs to estimate their customer's data protection needs. RapidFireTools assisted with the offering's development.

Competition

Of course, Datto faces plenty of competition in the MSP-centric business continuity market. Perhaps by coincidence, Continuum CEO Michael George also was in Europe this week, promoting the company's Continuity247 BDR service to Autotask partners. In some ways, it looks like Autotask and Continuum are striving to align against Datto, but that thesis could be a stretch on my part. Plus, Autotask has its own endpoint backup product that may gradually gain more server-type capabilities...
