Accenture is acquiring VeriSign's iDefense Security Intelligence Services business, the companies confirmed today. The iDefense cybersecurity platform specializes in delivering faster access to relevant, timely and actionable security intelligence, the companies say. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
iDefense has been around for nearly 20 years, and has amassed "vast amounts of proprietary threat intelligence data" over that period, Accenture asserts. Key adopters include banking, communications media and technology businesses. The iDefense capabilities will become part of Accenture’s adversary simulation, threat hunting and incident response services, the company said.
Accenture is in acquisition mode. The company is ready to spend a combined $1 billion buying up digital, cloud and security-related IT companies in 2017, CEO Pierre Nanterme said during an earnings call in late 2016.

On the security front, recent Accenture acquisitions have included:
- Defense Point Security, which supports the U.S. federal government and provides advanced cyber defense and response services;
- FusionX, which simulates attacks of advanced adversaries)
- Israeli-based Maglan, which provides vulnerability countermeasures, cyber forensics and malware defenses; and
- Endgame Federal Services Business, which specializes in proactive cybersecurity defensive operations.
