Veeam Co-CEO Peter McKay Exits Amid Executive Reorganization

Former Veeam Co-CEO Peter McKay

Veeam Software Co-CEO Peter McKay is leaving the data protection software provider amid an executive team reorganization. Among the key executive updates:

  • Andrei Baronov shifts to CEO;
  • Ratmir Timashev becomes executive vice president (EVP), worldwide sales and marketing; and
  • William Largent shifts to executive vice president (EVP).

Both Timashev and Largent report to the Baronov. The company thanked McKay for his leadership contributions -- which helped to make Veeam one of the fastest-growing providers of data protection software.

ChannelE2E is checking to see if McKay is a candidate for the CEO position at Datto and/or Commvault. We doubt McKay would jump to a rival data protection provider -- but it never hurts to poke around. Datto CEO Austin McChord announced plans to step down last week. Also, Commvault has been hiring on the channel front and began a CEO search earlier this year amid pressure from activist investors.

Veeam: Still In Growth Mode?

Meanwhile, the executive changes at Veeam "add extra focus and strength to help the company continue its rapid expansion into the Enterprise and Cloud segments and enable it to accelerate growth across all markets," the company asserted.

Veeam has generated 41 consecutive quarters of double-digit growth. Enterprise-centric partnerships with Cisco Systems, HP Enterprise, Lenovo and NetApp have gained traction with large customers.

Still, rivals are redoubling their efforts against Veeam. StorageCraft earlier this year launched end-to-end data protection services that specifically target Veeam. And Carbonite earlier this month announced virtual machine data protection capabilities -- an attempt to counter Veeam's strong position among VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V customers.

Veeam's next major customer and partner conference -- VeeamOn19 -- is scheduled for May 2019 in Miami.
