Backup, disaster recovery and business continuity company Unitrends is partnering with Spanning Cloud Apps to expand its cloud backup solutions portfolio. Both companies also are partnering with Kaseya, and all three firms are owned by private equity firm Insight Venture Partners.
The enterprise-level deal between Unitrends and Spanning encompasses Microsoft Office 365, Google G Suite, and Salesforce. Unitrends CEO Paul Brady says including these services will reduce complexity as enterprises increasingly turn toward the cloud.
"As more of our customers and end users depend on enterprise cloud applications, it's critical that we help them protect their data no matter it where resides," said Brady. "Often this begins with educating users that the advantages of SaaS does not include protecting data from deletion, user error, ransomware, or malicious employees."
Spanning's Growth
Spanning has long offered protection for G Suite, Salesforce, and 365, even when it was a subsidiary of Dell EMC. EMC sold the company to private equity firm Insight Venture Partners last year for an undisclosed amount.
The company now operates independently from its offices in Austin Texas and boasts more than 7,000 customers. Spanning has credited recent growth to its global data center expansion, a growing list of deals with enterprises, and distribution agreements with major channel partners like Unitrends.
Spanning Backup for Office 365 is available from Unitrends today with Spanning Backup for Salesforce and Spanning Backup for G Suite to be released later in 2018.
Unitrends: Enterprise and MSP Strategy
Unitrends, meanwhile, also has a growing business unit that specifically supports MSPs. Indeed, Unitrends MSP recently partnered with Kaseya to promote Kaseya Unified Backup (KUB), which blends enterprise-class backup, ransomware detection, and cloud-based business continuity disaster recovery (BCDR) services in an all-in-one appliance-based platform.
Of course, Unitrends and Spanning aren’t the only companies vying for SaaS application backup business across the IT channel. Veeam has experienced strong growth in its Backup for Microsoft 365 offering. Also, OwnBackup has offered a Salesforce backup program for some time; Datto SaaS protection blankets Office 365 and G Suite; and CloudBerry Lab's suite extends across a range of cloud platforms.
