The U.S. Department of Justice has unveiled indictments against Huawei Technologies and the Chinese technology company's CFO , alleging violations of U.S. sanctions on Iran and trade secrets theft, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Huawei, one of the world's largest suppliers of smartphones and networking equipment, faces growing business, financial, compliance and legal pressure on multiple continents.
Numerous countries say they may block Huawei from bidding on 5G network contracts, alleging that the company and its equipment could be used to spy for the Chinese government. Huawei has repeatedly denied such claims.
The legal moves could further escalate trade tensions between China and the United States. The U.S. charges against Huawei come just two days before negotiators for the U.S. and China are set to resume trade talks in Washington, D.C., The Wall Street Journal notes.
