Carbonite has hired Citrix Systems veteran Craig Stilwell as Chief Revenue Officer, and promoted Webroot veteran Charlie Tomeo to VP of channel sales for the entire Carbonite portfolio.
The executive leadership moves reinforce CEO Mohamad Ali's commitment to a channel-friendly sales model that increasingly leverages managed services providers (MSPs) across cybersecurity and data protection services. Ali has maintained a "do no harm" approach to Webroot's MSP-centric go to market ever since Carbonite acquired the company for $618.5 million in March 2019.
Tomeo reports to Stilwell, who in turn reports to Ali. It's a safe bet Stilwell and Tomeo will march forward with clear orders to drive recurring revenue opportunities for partners.
Carbonite Executive Updates: The Background
Stilwell spent nearly 20 years at Citrix Systems, rising through the ranks to hold various partner leadership roles. He most recently was senior VP of partner sales for the worldwide organization.
Tomeo, meanwhile, spent roughly 14 years at Webroot ahead of the company's recent sale to Carbonite. He's widely credited as a channel pioneer in the SMB-centric MSP market, particularly as it pertains to cybersecurity integrations and relationships across the ecosystem.
Admittedly, Carbonite faces strong, entrenched rivals in the backup and security markets. But Ali is working on familiar ground. He hatched the company's data protection plan and built a shortlist of acquisition targets back in 2014, and has gradually rounded out the Carbonite strategy with multiple acquisitions and organic R&D.
