1. Washington Eyes Google Breakup: The US Department of Justice is looking at a bid to break up Alphabet’s Google after a ruling found the company monopolized the online search market. It’s one of the options on the table, according to a Bloomberg report. Two decades ago the Justice Department was unsuccessful in its effort to break up Microsoft.
2. Huawei Challenges Nvidia: Huawei is prepping a new chip that could challenge Nvidia’s kingpin position in AI, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. The company is going after the AI business with its Ascend series. But success is not a foregone conclusion as the effort faces production issues, according to the report.
3. Nvidia Earnings Anticipated: Meanwhile, all eyes are on Nvidia, awaiting the company’s quarterly earnings report scheduled for August 28, when CEO Jensen Huang is expected to comment on the demand and supply for AI chips in 2025.
4. Fast Growing MSPs: Several MSPs are among Inc. 5000’s fastest growing private companies, including New Charter Technologies, CompassMSP, Ariento, Omega Systems, Medicus IT and Magna5.
5. N-able Expands Ecoverse: MSP tools platform provider N-able has added new vendors to its Technology Alliance Program (TAP), a program that is designed to foster more innovation within the company’s open MSP ecoverse. New relationships include Bocada integrating with N-able Cove, AlertOps and DeskDay integrating with N-central, and PIXM and Hudu integrating with N-central and N-sight.
6. Acronis Acquired by PE: European private equity firm EQT has taken a majority stake in Acronis. The company said that the founders, management and existing investors will remain as significant minority shareholders. The transaction is expected to close in Q1 or Q2 of 2025. Acronis partners with 20,000 service providers.
7. KnowBe4 Offers Cyber Awareness Kit: KnowBe4, a security awareness training and simulated phishing platform provider, has released a free cybersecurity resource toolkit for individuals and organizations in recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
