Live Blog: VeeamOn 2019 Conference

Veeam and its Cloud Data Management partner ecosystem have made multiple announcements during this week's VeeamOn 2019 conference in Miami, Florida. Among the highlights we're tracking:

1. Veeam Business Momentum: The company has exceeded $1 billion in annual bookings and now serves more than 350,000 customers. Actual revenues and profit figures were not disclosed, however. The bookings figure surfaces a few months after Veeam disclosed a $500 million investment from Insight Venture Partners and other backers.

2. Veeam Business Focus, Rivalries: Extending beyond the backup and disaster recovery discussion, Veeam is positioning itself as the de facto choice for Cloud Data Management across Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, IBM, Google Cloud Platform and various hybrid systems. The move essentially positions Veeam against such names as CohesityDattoDruva and Rubrik, ChannelE2E believes.

3. Veeam Product Launch: The new Veeam Availability Orchestrator v2 brings "comprehensive DR, operational recovery and platform migrations to any organization that is leveraging Veeam’s proven backup and replication capabilities," the company asserts.

4. Veeam Enterprise Partnerships: The new “with Veeam” program involves partnerships with enterprise storage vendors. The goal: Provide customers with secondary storage solutions that combine Veeam software with  storage, HCI infrastructure hardware and management stacks. Early solutions include Nutanix and ExaGrid.

5. Cloud Distribution: Pax8 has agreed to distribute Veeam's Availability solutions to MSPs in North America. It's a key move for both companies. Most of Pax8's distribution portfolio involves SMB-centric solutions. And most of Veeam's channel push, to date, has involved midmarket and enterprise efforts. Together, the two companies could help Veeam to reach more SMB-centric MSPs.

6. Data Center Services: US Signal has expanded its partnership with Veeam. Customers using Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 can now back up and replicate to an offsite US Signal data center.

7. Partner: Wasabi, a hot cloud storage company,  has passed Veeam Ready Object storage testing -- essentially paving the way for channel partners to leverage both companies for data protection services.

8. Reality Check: No doubt, Veeam remains in growth mode. But the company has made some pretty extensive executive changes in the past year including the departure of Co-CEO Peter McKay. Also, Veeam must balance enterprise-centric relationships with channel partner relationships -- especially as competition from Cohesity, Datto, Druva, Rubrik and others potentially intensifies. The anecdotal evidence suggests Veeam is succeeding on the revenue front, but we don't have a feel for profit figures or a potential burn rate at the privately held company.
