HP Enterprise confirmed an undisclosed number of layoffs this week in North America, according to GeekWire. The cuts come as HPE prepares to shed some software assets to Micro Focus. HPE CEO Meg Whitman is striving to double-down on hybrid cloud opportunities while also scouring the market for potential software acquisitions.
Sister company HP Inc. announced staff cuts last week.
This week's HPE's job cuts were particularly hard on Stackato, a service that lets developers create applications that run on private, hybrid or public clouds, GeekWire reported. Whitman had previously promised to "bring together HPEs’ Helion OpenStack and Stackato solutions with SUSE’s OpenStack expertise to provide best-in-class, enterprise-grade hybrid cloud offerings."
Although HPE didn't disclose a specific headcount reduction figure, it sounds like the cuts were targeted rather than massive in nature. Overall, the company has gradually improved its financial results and balance sheet.
