Oracle CEO: 2 Cloud Companies Will Dominate SaaS Suite Market

Oracle CEO Mark Hurd has put Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Salesforce and other big cloud companies on notice. Indeed, Hurd predicts that two cloud suite providers will dominate about 90 percent of the enterprise SaaS market by 2025. Hmmm...

Hurd insists Oracle will be one of the dominant players. But he declines to predict the other dominant SaaS suite provider's identity.

Either way, his message at today's Oracle CloudWorld conference in New York was clear: Oracle is trying to shift the overall cloud conversation away from basic infrastructure and standalone SaaS applications. Instead, Oracle wants customers and partners to focus on integrated SaaS Suites -- a series of applications that are tightly integrated. There, Hurd is betting, Oracle can dominate the market.

Oracle Cloud: IaaS , PaaS and SaaS

Of course, Oracle has the cloud infrastructure that enterprises and partners need for DevTest. And Oracle wants ISVs to use its IaaS and Paas offerings. But the end-game, for those listening closely, will involve plenty of M&A in the SaaS market.

Hurd didn't predict who would do all the buying or selling, but he insisted that Oracle will be one of only two major SaaS suite providers enjoying major success when 2025 arrives.

During his CloudWorld keynote, Hurd also predicted that all enterprise storage would live in enterprise-class clouds by 2025. And cloud security, he added, would outpace traditional enterprise security by that time. In fact, he insisted, Oracle's cloud is already more secure than traditional enterprise networks.

Those bold statements arrive as Oracle attempts to shift its own customers and partners from on-premises hardware and software sales (i.e, Engineered Systems) to more and more cloud deployments. Oracle is making cloud partner program moves to help accelerate that transition.
