Symantec (SYMC) has reached a deal to acquire LifeLock for $2.3 billion, the company confirmed late Sunday. This is Symantec's latest step to refocus its business on privacy, security and identity protection.
Symantec sold off its Veritas storage business in January 2016, acquired Blue Coat in June 2016, and named Blue Coat CEO Greg Clark to lead the combined company. Blue Coat claims to be the No. 1 market share leader and share gainer in Web Security. The company offers “Cloud Generation Security” to more than 15,000 customers worldwide.
Now, LifeLock is the latest piece in the new Symantec puzzle. LifeLock provides a range of identity protection services for consumers and small businesses. Rumors about Symantec acquiring LifeLock surfaced about five years ago.
An earlier version of this story suggested Symantec paid $2.4 billion for LifeLock.
